NEW MOTHER: BRITTANY BISHOP

How sweet were Sarah’s answers yesterday??  Well get ready because round two of the mommy series starts now with the gorgeous Brittany of Life of Charmings. I stumbled upon Brittany’s blog after seeing this picture of her bikini-baby-belly picture on Pinterest. It literally stopped me in my pregnant belly tracks and made me think “DANG, this is what beautiful means.” In July, B and her handsome man welcomed little Maddalena Rose (ummmmmm GORGEOUS name) into this bright, big world, and I have throughly enjoyed seeing her document this little angel baby’s life. The way Brittany writes about her M always leaves me feeling refreshed, because I always feel the exact same way about W. She just has a unique gift of actually getting all of these new mommy emotions out of her head and down in writing. Prepare to be dazzled…

First thought when you saw little M…

oh my goodness. they handed her right to me and i had so many thoughts all at once!! she’s beautiful! she’s healthy! i started noticing all her details. her little fingernails, her itty bitty ears, her soft brown hair, her tiniest birthmarks, her fuzzy shoulders. really, i just felt so much relief and was absolutely, completely in love. my mom was in the delivery room with us and when she saw maddalena she said, “ohh my gosh, she looks just like you when you were born, brittany!” and so it began… it is such fun having a mini-me!
Words that describe your life with a new baby…
joy is definitely a word that comes into my mind every single day as i share life with my baby girl now! she really does keep me smiling from the inside out and i feel so ridiculously blessed to get to spend my time with such a cool tiny lady. other words i could throw out there? challenge. coffee. snuggle. growth. instinct. love.

Favorite moments from this first year being a new mommy…

when my babe was super tiny, i tried kind of pathetically to get her to have her first giggle for so long! i was just so excited for her to start laughing… so, finally, she was 2 1/2 months old when i was just kissing on her tummy one morning and she laughed for the very first time! it was the most beautiful little sound i’d ever heard. we’ve made sure to laugh every day since then, so that’s an ongoing favorite of mine. another fav was just last month when she sat on top of my horse with me for the first time! when i see how happy she is around animals, my heart just beams. but oh, it’s so hard to choose favorites, though, right? because every milestone is basically the best thing ever.
Any moment that has made you laugh hysterically…
our cat, sophie, has loooved maddalena since before she was born [she was so obsessed with my belly!]. their relationship has been absolutely hilarious, and i think it’s the funniest when sophie “bathes” maddalena’s head for her by licking it all over. she thinks m is her kitten. and m loves her back, for sure. they have quite a relationship.

What do you do during nap time…

oh, nap time! well, my baby takes after me in the sleep department, which means she pretty much agrees that there is just too much life to be lived, so who wants to spend it unconscious?! she will fight sleep until she can’t hold out any longer… but when she does finally give in for 30 minutes or so… i try to catch some sunshine in the back yard or catch up with stuff on my computer. or take a hot shower if i need to. showers, you know, they’re kiiind of a luxury these days! or, i like to lay down with her, too, sometimes, because it’s just nice to snuggle and rest a bit.
What are your “mommy-alone-time” indulgences…
i have always been a totally huge weirdo when it comes to alone time, meaning, i don’t need it. i don’t even like it. but i do consider my “me time” to be the point at the very end of the day, usually around 11:30 at night, where i get in my bed and sneak under the covers to peek at my iphone for a while! oh boy, do i like a nice, mindless round of pinterest browsing until i doze off. thrilling, i know!

This being your very first Mother’s day, what does that mean to you/ how do you feel about it…

when i think of mother’s day, i can’t help but think of my own mom, who is the most wonderful, selfless person i know. she gave our family her whole self as we were growing up and she never stops supporting us. i am beyond grateful for her and i hope i can be half the mother she has been! it is still completely surreal that i am a mom now!
What is your plan for your first mother’s day…
oh, just to spend it with my little fam, i hope! i wouldn’t object to some pretty sunshine… or flowers 😉 [hint hint, husb!] just kiddin,’ i totally don’t care what we do, necessarily, i just like to be with my peeps.

What wishes do you have for M for her life…

of course, there is so much i want for my sweet girl as she goes through life! her future is so big and bright and like any mama, i want the best for her in every way! most importantly, i want her to know God and trust His plan for her. i want her to always always always feel loved. i want her to keep her zest for life no matter what is thrown her way. i want her to know exactly how well she deserves to be treated and accept nothing less [especially from boys when that day comes]. i want her to know how to follow her instincts, choose happiness and love passionately!

Thank you so much beautiful B! We are so in love with M’s adorable cheekies, cute expressions and beautiful eyes. W and I just wish we lived in the rolling hills of Nashville too so that we could wander the fields picking flowers, riding horses, and watching the Tennessee sunsets with you two! Have the best Sunday celebrating your first Mother’s Day with your little princess and handsome prince. xoxo
